Welcome to the Allegan County Sheriff's Reserves

The Reserve Division is a part-time / volunteer unit that works in conjunction with the Uniform Patrol Division of the Sheriff's Office.  This unit provides a variety of services and functions including law enforcement presence during large events, a second officer on road patrol, traffic control functions and assisting with crime scene. This division also provides security at many functions throughout Allegan County including the annual Allegan County Fair. Members of the Reserve Division along with the Mounted Division participate in a basic training academy every other year.  All new reserve recruits are required to complete this academy as well as a field training program before being placed into service.

Additional Functions and Activities

Members assigned to the Reserve Division meet monthly to discuss unit activities and to receive briefings from the Sheriff's Office on relevant departmental information, functions and direction from the Sheriff.  Training is also offered after these meetings covering a variety of topics relative to the unit and the Sheriff's Office. In addition to the monthly meetings and training, bi-annual In-Service training sessions are held covering a variety of law enforcement topics.

Organization and Structure

The Reserve Division is structured into four squads.  Each of these squads are responsible for certain areas within the county and are supervised by reserve sergeants or squad leaders who report to the unit lieutenant. The Reserve Division is supervised by the agency liaison officer and the Law Enforcement Captain.
